i’d feel really bad about all these bullshit entries if anyone actually read this

As it turns out, loaning all fifteen discs of Futurama to my sister, sans the original cases, was a bad idea seeing as twelve of those discs don’t specify which volume they’re from. Though according to the synopsis on the episode list on Wikipedia, Lrrr’s wife’s name is spelled “Ndnd,” which is pretty cool. Still not worth loading each disc to check the episodes on it, though.

Also, in light of the recent Wikidrama, I have to ask how a list of Futurama episodes is “notable,” or even remotely encyclopedic. That said, it was incredibly useful despite the fact that it should be deleted if the greasy Trekkies who can’t move out of their parents’ basement actually uphold their own standards fairly.

I admit it, I’m just curious to see if those putrescent sacks of half-digested Funyuns who edit Wikipedia articles will make a genderbunny article just out of spite. If so, I’m willing to illustrate myself sodomizing a goat for the purposes of citation.

I admit it, the previous generalizations about the people who edit Wikipedia articles were baseless and childish. Though I’m of the mind that anyone with any sort of life doesn’t write Wiki articles, they look them up. (And move on to a source that’s actually reputable if they needed anything beyond a brief overview, but I can’t really hold that against Wikipedia because that’s their stated purpose, and the reasoning behind the whole citation / notability thing. Ostensibly. Furthermore, I’m pretty sure I’ll be going to the Special Hell for following a run on sentence with a sentence fragment.)

Oh, and I’m working on starting a new comic, one that will be updated more often than my current speed of “never.” I don’t want to announce anything until after it’s been running for a while, so a single sentence buried under Yet Another Bullshit Post is about the best you’ll see on this site for pretty much the rest of the year.

wait, how am i supposed to get this home on my bike?

So I go out for some shit, and I figure I’ll stop at the liquor store and somewhere for dinner on the way back. So I go in and make for the beer case, and they don’t have any six-packs of Budweiser in bottles. Cans, but at that point I may as well be drinking sewage as far as taste goes. They did, however, have twenty-packs. And it’s not until I walk out the door, 240 fluid ounces of fun under my arm, that I realize that I can’t fit this in my backpack, much less carry all that weight without my bag, back, or both giving out. Fortunately, it’s Bud, so it was worth hiking home (only a quarter mile, tops) with this huge-ass box balanced on my bike seat. And you know everyone who saw me was thinking “small wonder that slob doesn’t have a car.” Which, I admit, was a welcome change from “ZOMG long-haired potsmoker,” even if the latter is slightly more accurate.

Lessons learned today: Ask if they have some goddamned six-packs, or just skip the Bud for now. Also, I have a six-pack of Mike’s in my bag which I really should get into the fridge. Fuck you, procrastination!

i stopped caring about the writers’ guild strike when i learned that the nhl strike ended.

Not really, I already knew the NHL was playing again. If a best guess counts as knowing, and any meteorologist will tell you that it does. (In all seriousness, I don’t like a lot of thee stuff I’ve heard about the writer’s guild, but I’m behind them 100% on this strike. Though I’m behind a separate contract, or even a separate guild entirely, for sitcom writers, because they don’t deserve a cent more than minimum wage for that shit. In other news, I don’t take the phrase “in all seriousness” very seriously.)

Bitch is, hockey is pretty much the one thing I can’t watch without a TV. (Well, I could go to a bar, but other people would be there. You can see my dilemma.) And if I’m buying a TV, I may as well pick up a new PS2, right? I ain’t played Amplitude in ages. Then I look at the songlist from Guitar Hero 3, and am now cursing myself out for selling my PS2 in the first place. (On the plus side, my brother in law pawned my old GH controller, so I have no reason not to get a new one. He might have even left all my shit on the memory card I gave him…)

So I’d like to take this time to point out that I still take commissions, for an obscenely low amount of money. Hint hint.

(The real bitch about selling my PS2 and nearly all my games? I only asked for $150.)

fuck the Taiwanese sweatshop that assembled my body

So I have a bad shoulder, that’s not news. What is new is that my good shoulder is giving me trouble very similar to my bad shoulder back when it was still healing. (As it will never be completely right one could argue that the bad shoulder is still healing, but let’s ignore that for now.) Except this time I didn’t drop 160 pounds of manflesh onto it, so it’s got me stumped.

My clocks are hopefully set to the right time now, otherwise I’ll be an hour early to work tomorrow. (Which would make up for being an hour late last Monday.) While digging around for the microwave’s instruction manual, I found a slip of paper in the manual for my alarm clock which specifically tells me how to reset it to change the time on the correct date. Really wish I’d bothered to take care of that when I bought the fucking thing six months ago.

Webcomics vs Wikipedia is on again. FOIGHT OF THE CENTURAH! (Predictably, the Rob and Elliot site is down so I can’t link that, ensuring that nobody will get that reference.) Now, I think Taylor said it best:

“Wikipedia appears on my referrer list as having provided 401 out of 293,781 referrals for the month of September. In October (the month during which I stirred the pot again) it provided 395 referrals (as of this writing). Webalizer rounds this down to “0.00%” of my monthly traffic.”

But I have a few points to add:
1) Rym and Scott of Geeknights have said, and I agree, that most of the parties involved don’t get the point of notability: there has to be a verifiable source for any and every bit of information on Wikipedia, and that’s the way it’s always been.
2) However, that should not be grounds for deletion. It should be grounds for a big tag describing that entry as “lacking citations, information on this page could be wrong, cite this shit up if you can.” Only more formal, because god knows it’s impossible to be involved with wikipedia without having a damn redwood up your ass.
3) That’s not to say that anything should be added. Spam should be deleted. If the entirety of an article is “this exists,” delete it. More to the point, if the article doesn’t contain more than the first page of a Google search for that term, axe it.
4) Otherwise, deletion should be a last resort, and used sparingly. Deletion of information is and should be the antithesis of everything a wiki is about.

Lastly, comixpedia exists. This should be where you can find all the comics that don’t meet wikipedia’s notability guidelines. I think that every webcomics-related article should have a link to comixpedia at the bottom. Deleted comics should have a page with an explanation that it’s not wikipedia material (yet) and a link the the relevant comixpedia page. And most importantly, all you whiney fucks should be updating the goddamn webcomics wiki! I’m not saying I need to be able to find a fucking entry for every two-bit hack ever to hold a pencil, I’m saying that the articles there need to be expanded. I have not once looked up something in the webcomics wiki and found anything I didn’t already know. In most cases, the wikipedia article was more in-depth. So well fucking done on that count, people.

And while I’m bitching and moaning, why is it that when Mediawiki can’t find something, it suggests that you write the article yourself? If i knew enough about the subject to write an article, I probably wouldn’t be searching for it. Cocks.

Well, I should’ve gone to bed 45 minutes ago, so I’ll wrap this up. Now if there’s any justice in the world (and I got this blog set up properly) those links earlier won’t send a ping to the corresponding trackback uri. Not just good on principal, but good because nobody needs to see this train wreck of a rant.
